Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist for NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has an undergraduate degree in English from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was hired by KYW Radio and TV as an Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. 1996, she joined WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). In Washington she was named general correspondent by NBC News two year later. 1981 she started covering for the White House, and in 1988, she was promoted to chief congressional correspondent. She was made as the head White House correspondent by NBC News in the year 1992. Mitchell appeared as both an anchor and a panelist on the TV news program Meet the Press. Mitchell was a part of the panel at the 1988 Presidential Debates, which featured George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded in 2005 the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. And in 2004, Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) was honoured Mitchell for her work in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first reporter to report on White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan as president from 1981-1988. Mitchell was a reporter on a range of notable stories, including the Iran-Contra scandal, the tax reforms to the budget and arms control. Mitchell travelled together with President Ronald Reagan several times to attend summits and discuss matters such as the Iran Contra controversy.
